SURGERY AND DAY PROCEDURES

ADMISSION - Once you have scheduled surgery for your pet, plan to arrive between 7:30am and 8:00am the morning of surgery. We recommend that you withhold food and water from your pet after midnight the day prior to surgery. Admission will take about 20 minutes.  You or your agent will be asked to sign a procedure authorization to give us permission to perform surgery.

We understand that you wish your pet to be as comfortable as possible while he or she is staying with us. We provide quilts, blankets, and TLC for comfort and well being. Please remember to take any leashes, collars and carriers with you.  You will be instructed to phone after 1pm to check on your pet’s recovery and at that time we will let you know when your pet will be ready to be discharged.  If you call and the phone goes to voicemail, hospitalized patients are being actively cared for.  Please leave a message and we will call you back a little later. Most of our surgeries are discharged late the same day as we do not have overnight care.

DISCHARGE INFORMATION - Dogs and cats are truly amazing to watch after surgery.  There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a dog wag its tail or a cat purr the following day after a major surgical procedure. However, we have to remember that they are in pain and continuing to tend them is very important. Your job as a pet owner is to try and see things from the animal’s point of view as well as being their “brain” for them so as to provide the best environment possible for healing.

When you arrive for discharge you will go to the desk closest to the door (opposite the desk you went to at admission.  Let them know who you are and that you are picking up your pet.  The receptionist will give you the invoice to pay and provide you with discharge instructions, provide any necessary medication and address any questions you have.  One of our team members will come out with your pet.  The doctors are generally not involved in the discharge process and it is not routine to meet with the doctor at that time. If you feel that you need to talk to the doctor please let the receptionist know when you phone in at 1pm.  Our doctors are generally consulting with patients during discharge hours and it may be necessary to have them call you.

Please schedule any recheck and/or suture removal appointments prior to leaving.
